Rio Grande Games Seaside Second Edition — Dominion Expansion with 26 New Kingdom Cards for 1–4 Players, 90–120 Minutes

Seaside Second Edition is a refreshed take on Dominion's beloved expansion, inviting players to rethink each turn as a stepping stone to the next. The central idea is that some cards affect this turn while others shape what comes next, letting you plan ahead with more nuance.

In this edition, you’ll encounter 26 new Kingdom cards that introduce fresh mechanics, combos, and decisions. The flavor evokes coastal exploration—from mapping rivers to distant ports—while maintaining the familiar deck-building tension that makes Dominion so replayable.

What’s inside

• Nine brand new, never-published Kingdom cards that expand options and timing decisions.
• A reimagined edition of one of Dominion’s most popular expansions, highlighted by updated card text and improved balance.
• Replaces eight cards from the original Seaside expansion released in 2010, keeping the set fresh.
• Includes a broad mix of duration, attack, treasure, and action cards to support varied strategies.

How it changes the game

Seaside emphasizes a flow between immediate effects and long-term setup. Some cards grant payoff this turn, while others lay the groundwork for the next round or future turns. You may find yourself rerouting your plan as new options appear, or pivoting to capitalize on a sudden opportunity at the table. The theme of exploration translates to strategic decisions about risk, tempo, and resource allocation, all while you compete to secure islands, ports, and lucrative trade routes.

With 26 new Kingdoms, players have more paths to victory and more moments where timing matters. Expect added tension as you weigh whether to press an advantage now or save cards for a more powerful sequence later. The updated balance aims to feel familiar to Dominion veterans and accessible to newer players alike, encouraging experimentation without overwhelming complexity.

Real-world play feel

Imagine gathering around a cozy table, the board’s coastline and ship imagery providing a tactile cue for naval-settlement ambitions. You’ll notice how new cards prompt you to think a step ahead—whether you’re drafting a fast cash engine, building a mid-game engine, or defending your hard-won ports. The tactile sensations of card art, cardboard coins, and the satisfying shuffle all contribute to a session that’s as much about story as it is about strategy.

If you’re upgrading a Dominion collection, Seaside Second Edition offers a cohesive upgrade path with fresh content and updated components. It pairs well with existing expansions for a broader sandbox, and its balanced mix of card types supports multiple playstyles—from rapid-fire builds to longer, more thoughtful engines. While not a guarantee of victory, the new interactions with your deck create intriguing possibilities you haven’t tried before.
